He was famous during the silent film era in Germany, before moving to the United States in the 1930s. He began his artistic career in Hollywood in 1937, after collaborating with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. He also participated in presenting many artistic works, and he won the German Film Festival Award as Best Supporting Actor. He died in Munich, Germany.
