Finnish novelist, screenwriter, poet, and journalist. He was born in Helsinki, Finland. He was called the dean of modern Finnish literature and one of the most prolific and internationally best-selling Finnish writers. He was famous for his vast knowledge, especially in history. He began his literary career at an early age, publishing his first books. In 1925, he traveled to Paris, France, in 1927, where he wrote his novel "The Grand Illusion." He also worked in journalism, where he served as editor-in-chief of a Finnish magazine, wrote detective novels, and created the character of Inspector Palmu. He became famous for his historical novel Sinuhe the Egyptian, which was published in 1945 and was translated into many languages. Cinematic films adapted the novel, setting its events during the reign of Pharaoh Akhenaten. Among his other most prominent novels are "A Stranger Came to the Farm," " The Adventurer," "The Wanderer, and "The Dark Angel."
