She began her artistic career in the early 1940s in Italian cinema, where she appeared in the film L'orizzonte dipinto in 1941 and made a large number of films until she played a role in Victor Hugo’s masterpiece Les Misérables in 1948, which gave her the opportunity to present the British film The Glass Mountain (1949) and achieved international success. She received offers from Hollywood, so she presented the joint American-Italian film Black Magic (1949). After several American films, she returned to Italy to present joint Italian and European films with Britain, France, and West Germany. She performed in several theatrical roles, and her last film is the joint Italian-Japanese film, Sparrow (1993).
