American actor and screenwriter born on 9 October 1951 in New Jersey to a Jewish family. After graduating from Union High School, he attended University of Houston, but dropped out. He won two Emmys in 1991 and 1992 for co-writing the Academy Awards telecast hosted by Billy Crystal. He appeared in many films including Good Morning, Vietnam (1987), Bull Durham (1988), Batman (1989), and Open Season (1996).
