A British actor born in London, on February 7, 1912. He married the actress Carole Lynne (1939-1945), and after their divorce, he married the actress Muriel Pavlow (1947-1986), and had no children. He worked as a teacher before becoming a stage actor in 1937, and his first movie appearance was in a small role in the British film Miracles Do Happen in 1938. He was recruited during World War II, with his younger brother. His most important works are: The Story of Shirley Yorke (1948), The Circle (1957), London Belongs to Me (1977), and Nightingale's Boys (1975). He died in London, on March 22, 1986 of cancer.
