An American music producer, composer, and television producer. He has been nominated for a Grammy Award numerous times. In 1968, Jones made history by becoming the first African American to receive a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Original Song "The Eyes of Love" from the Universal Pictures film Banning (1967) in the same year. In 1967, Jones made history by receiving two nominations for the Academy Award for Best Original Score, which he received for his work on the music for the film In Cold Blood (1967). In 1971, he achieved the distinction of becoming the first African American to win the Oscar for Best Original Score. Jones was the first African American to win the Academy Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 1995. He and sound designer Willie D. Burton share the distinction of being the most nominated African American for the Academy Awards, having received seven nominations each. Quincy Jones received the Humanitarian Award at the 2008 BET Awards. In addition, Jones was the producer of the late pop icon Michael Jackson's album Thriller, which has sold more than 110 million copies worldwide. He was also a producer and conductor on the "We Are the World" charity single and the international charity single.
