British actress born in Camberwell, London, UK on 4 February 1918 to a family of artists. Her father was actor and comedy writer Stanley Lupino, her mother actress Connie Emeral, and her uncle singer and dancer Lupino Lane. She studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and appeared with her father on The Love Race (1931). Her first big role was on Her First Affaire (1932). Her most notable works include The Ghost Camera (1933), High Sierra (1941), Ladies in Retirement (1941), and The Hard Way (1943). She was nominated several times for Emmy awards and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She married 3 times and had one child. She died of a stroke while battling with colon cancer on 3 August 1995 in Los Angeles, California, US.
