A British actress who was born in Holloway, London, England, United Kingdom. She married the Fourth Lord of Oranmore and Browne, Dominick Geoffrey (1951-2002), and remained with him until his death. She is known for Carnival (1946), I Became a Criminal (1947), The Saint in London (1939), and The Saint's Vacation (1941).
She was a beautiful blonde born to a ballerina mother, who encouraged her daughter to be a performer, starting at the age of ten. She trained in dancing and acting at the Fay Compton Studio of Dramatic Art. She made her film debut in School for Scandal (1930).
In 1933, she appeared on stage with Fred Astaire, who trained her in dance, and she returned to the cinema screen after 5 years when she became a lively young woman, appearing in such films as Clive Brook and Madeleine Carroll in Loves of a Dictator (1935), Radio Pirates (1935), and Lucky Days (1935).
She returned to the theater to work with writer and actor Stanley Lupino, who fell in love with her. In 1942, Lupino died, and she had a nervous breakdown and took a hiatus from cinema. She returned in 1946 and starred in dramas, such as Green for Danger. She married Baron Dominick Geoffrey secretly in 1951 and made her last movie, I'll Get You (1952).
In the early 1960s, she returned to live in London, and spent her later years tending her gardens. She died in London, England, United Kingdom, on September 24, 2006.
