An Irish novelist and short story writer, born in County Cork, southern Ireland. After publishing his first novel in 1958, Trevor produced a body of literary works that included nineteen novels and nineteen collections of short stories, one of which was translated into Arabic under the title (The Romantic Ballroom). He also produced six plays, two works of non-fiction, and one book for children. He continued to produce literature until late in his life, and received numerous nominations for prestigious awards such as the Booker Prize and the International Dublin Prize. Among his most notable works is the novel Love and Summer in 2009, which was nominated for the Booker Prize and the Dublin Prize. He received many awards and honors, including the Whitbread Prize three times and the Henry O'Neill Short Story Award four times. In 2002, he was knighted in recognition of his contributions to literature. He died in Somerset, United Kingdom.
