She was the 34th Treasurer of the United States, born to Mexican immigrants in Miami, Arizona. Appointed by President Richard Nixon on September 20, 1971, she served from December 17, 1971 to February 14, 1974. In 1969, she assumed the presidency of a bank, won the Outstanding Business Woman of the Year, and established a college scholarship fund. She's known for Nixon by Nixon: In His Own Words (2014). She died on January 15, 2018.
