A Japanese actor, born in Kiyamoto, Japan. He studied philosophy at university before leaving his studies and joining an acting academy. He won the Mainichi Film Festival Award and the Blue Ribbon Award for Best Actor, which is awarded by film and book critics. He also won the Japan Academy of Film Arts Award.
