A Russian-born German-British actress, born in Reval, Russian Empire [now Tallinn, Estonia] as Irene Isabella Margarethe Paulina Caecilia Freiin von Meyendorff. She won an Honorary Award in 1988 at the German Film Awards. She was married to five men and never had children. She is known for Der Fall Molander (1945), Einmal der Lieberman Herrgott Sein (1942), and Film Without a Name (1948).
She was born as the eldest child of a German-Baltic aristocrat. She came to Berlin to work at Berlin studios. In 1936, she appeared in her first cinematic work, followed by several films. She did not appear as a star until she starred in The Great Sacrifice (1944). After the war, she participated in small roles in some German films.
In 1961, she met British actor James Robertson Justice, with whom she worked in her last three films. She fell in love with Robertson, so she left her third husband, German journalist Pit Severin. She also ended her career, and moved to England, lived with him, and worked as a teacher in a local language school.
She obtained British citizenship in 1967 and changed her name to Irina. When James Robertson suffered several financial shocks and was about to go broke, she returned to work in 1968 and presented the movie Mayerling (1968), starring Omar Sharif. Robertson suffered several strokes and was hospitalized.
After living with him for 14 years, she married him on his deathbed in 1975. 15 years after the death of her husband, she married her late husband's friend, the millionaire Frederick Keith Bromley, with whom she remained until her death. She died in King's Somborne, Hampshire, UK on 28 September 2001.
