An American actress, born in Vienna, Austria, as Maria Pichler. At the age of sixteen, Maria Palmer married Dr. Franz Marmorek in 1933 and their marriage ended in divorce. Among her most important works are Lady on a Train (1945), Rendezvous 24 (1946), The Web (1947), and 13Lead Soldiers (1948). She began her artistic activity in the theater as a child actress, appeared in various productions of the famous Max Reinhardt, and trained in dancing. She became a member of the Bodenwieser Ensemble, a European troupe, and after several high school plays and dance concerts, she studied drama and singing at the Vienna Conservatory. In 1938, when signs of the outbreak of World War II appeared, she traveled with her parents to the United States of America and stood on the stage of New York City theaters until 1942, when she presented her most famous play, The Moon is Down, and from the theater, she headed to film work. Maria Palmer made her movie debut in Mission to Moscow (1943) for Warner Bros., and she continued her work freely in various companies. Her film career diminished by the end of the fifties, so she turned to working in radio. She began working on television at the end of the forties with her appearance in Your Show Time (1949). She appeared in commercial advertisements and formed her own production company. She had a clear and continuous appearance on television until 1967 when her last appearance was in the series The F.B.I. She devoted herself to the production company and writing scripts until she died in Los Angeles, California, USA, on September 6, 1981, from lung cancer.
