He later became a singer and songwriter and put out several popular albums. His notable works include Beer for My Horses (2008), The Do-Over (2016), The Mule (2018), and Broken Bridges (2006). He passed away after a battle with cancer on February 5, 2024, in his hometown of Oklahoma at the age of 62.
