An Iraqi singer, born in Baghdad. He started his career by joining Baghdad TV in 1959 on the Amateur Corner program after having worked in a tailoring shop. He passed the test with a number of his amateur peers. He chose the stage name Jasim El Khayyat in reference to his work in tailoring and out of loyalty to it.
He studied under the great artist Mohammed Al Qubanchi after he joined the Baghdad Radio course. In 1964, he sang his first song, “Oyoun Habibi”. His most famous song, which launched him into the world of Arab fame and stardom, was “Arbaa Horouf”. He acted in some Iraqi and Egyptian works, including a musical series, Four Letters, and a movie, My Lover's Eyes. He died of a cerebral hemorrhage in Michigan, USA, in 1992.
