He married actress Pamela Raymond in 1960; they had two daughters, and she stayed with him until her death in 2008. He attended school in Queens, New York, joined the school theater, appeared on Broadway at the age of 9, and worked on several radio series. He joined Columbia University and began appearing on television in 1950. His last movie was Lightning Jack (1994), and he ended his career with an episode of Kung Fu (1995). He resided in the main Greater Los Angeles area. After being diagnosed with dementia, he moved to a memory care facility in Memphis, Tennessee in 2017 to be near his family.
