An American actress, born in Uvald, Texas, USA, on October 31, 1912 and died in Apple Valley, California, USA on February 7, 2001 from congestive heart failure. She won a Golden Apple in 1953 and a Golden Boot in 1983. She was awarded two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960 for her radio and television activism. She was married to four husbands, had one child, and adopted five children. She is known for The Roy Rogers Show (1951-1957), Apache Rose (1947), and The Trespasser (1947). She became known as a writer, actress, singer, and songwriter for Western films. She was born in Texas, lived with her uncle, a doctor, in Arkansas, ran away at the age of 14, married at 15, became a mother at 16, and divorced at 17. She moved to Memphis and worked for an insurance company while working as a singer on local radio, and after another unhappy marriage, she went to Louisville, Kentucky and became a popular singer at the local radio station where she worked as a secretary. She worked on Radio Dallas as a singer. She signed a contract with 20th Century Fox and appeared in a small role in the film Orchestra Wives (1942).
