An Indian actress, born in Gujarat, India. She married Kamal Roy at an early age, and the couple decided to move to Mumbai to work in the cinema. She began her artistic career in her first film, Ranakdevi, in 1948, which contributed to the establishment of the Gujarati film industry. She became famous for her mother role in the 1970s in films with the artist Amitabh Bachchan. She played the mother role for several Indian artists, such as Dharmendra and Dev Anand. She is known for Chhaya (1961), Shehnai (1964), and Deewaar (1975).
