An Iranian writer, director, and producer, born in the Iranian city of Neyshabur. He began his artistic career by writing articles and film criticism, and made his cinematic debut by writing the screenplay for Autumn (1987), directed by Rasul Sadr Ameli. He is the founder of Arta Film and the former chairman of the board of directors of the Iranian Cinema House in Tehran. He has directed several works, such as Eghdam Be Ghatl (1987), The Extraordinary Journey (1990), Ilia, the Young Painter (1992), The Rain Man (2000), and Motherland (2009). He won the Crystal Simorgh Award at the 2015 Fajr Film Festival for his film Crazy Rook.
