A British actress, born on March 30, 1898 in Kensington, London, England, United Kingdom. She was the daughter of actor Gerald Lawrence. She was educated at the Florence Ettlinger Drama School. She appeared in 1916 at the age of 18 when she played the role of Princess Catherine in the play Henry V. Her theatrical career lasted from 1916 to 1987, and she performed on television and many modern comedies. God and the Man is her first cinematic work, and she was known for her roles in the films Brief Encounter (1945), and Blithe Spirit. She died on February 28, 1993 in London.
