An Australian-American actress and singer, born in Richmond, Melbourne, Australia. She was called the Queen of '70s Pop. She was the daughter of actor Maxine Reddy and actress Stella Lamond and the mother of director Traci Wald Donat and producer and director Jordan Sommers. She studied at Tintern Grammar and traveled to the United States in 1966, where she held several small concerts and worked as a singer in local halls and in commercial advertising companies. In 1969, she enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles, to study psychology and philosophy part-time. Her stardom was strengthened when her single "I Am Woman" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in December 1972. In addition to her singing career, Helen participated in several diverse works between cinema and television drama, most notably: Pete's Dragon (1977), Airport (1975), and The Perfect Host (2010). She won a Grammy Award in 1973 for Best Female Vocal Performance for "I Am Woman" and the American Music Award in 1974. In the same year, she won a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She married producer and actor Jeff Wald on May 25, 1968, and they separated on January 3, 1983. She died on September 29, 2020, in Los Angeles, California, USA.
