A British actress and writer, born in Northampton, Northamptonshire, England, United Kingdom. She was nominated for a BAFTA Award in 1972 for Best Actress for Long Ago, Tomorrow (1971) and won the ESBFA Award in 1979 for Best Actress for International Velvet (1978). She was married to actor, director, and producer Bryan Forbes (1955-2013), had two children, and remained with him until his death.
She is known for The Stepford Wives (1975), International Velvet (1978), Long Ago, Tomorrow (1971). She had a remarkable career in the theater. She appeared in television commercials, worked in TV series, and wrote books. She studied at Sternhold College and the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts and trained for two years at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London.
She made her debut when she was 11 years old when she participated in the short film Here We Come Gathering: A Story of the Kentish Orchards (1945). She participated in the movie The Madwoman of Chaillot (1969), directed by her husband. Among her notable series is Let There Be Love (1982-1983).
