An American actor in film, television, and theater, born in Plainfield, Indiana, USA. He graduated from Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, VA. He worked as a singer in vaudeville at the age of 15, then joined the army during World War II. After the war, he spent 20 years in action roles and Western films, then he played comedic roles in cinema, television, and musical plays on Broadway, but his alcohol addiction affected his career. He was married four times and had three children. Among his notable works are The Abominable Snowman (1957), Sands of Iwo Jima (1949), and F Troop (1965-1967). He died in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, USA, on October 25, 1986, from cancer and emphysema, at age 67.
