A British actor, born in Leicester, on June 11, 1899. He is a leading British silent film actor for British and French films. He left for the United States in 1928 and signed a contract with Samuel Goldwyn. From the late 1920s to the early 1940s, he had leading roles in low-budget B-class movies, and a supporting actor in A-class movies, but did not reach the point of stardom. Among his most important works are: Slightly Married (1932), The Sacred Flame (1929), Vanity Fair (1932) and Three Wise Girls (1932). He became a US citizen in 1954. He died in Signal Hill, California, USA on March 2, 1972.
