She attended school in the Philippines and Hong Kong before immigrating to the United States, where she attended the University of Southern California and studied dance and ballet for six years. During World War II, she received the Merit Award from the U.S. Treasury Department for promoting war bond sales. She is the widow of a former army surgeon. She had been involved in acting since the 1930s, appearing in a variety of productions.
