A Brazilian film director and screenwriter, born in São Paulo, Brazil. She entered the film school at the University of São Paulo. After graduating, she studied at the university for three years and began working for the Radio and Television Culture. During her 14-year career in Radio and Television Culture, she produced around 50 documentaries, films, and plays for the station. In 1976, she moved to New York to pursue a degree in film at New York University Tisch School of the Arts. She completed this degree and graduated in 1978. She is best known for the film A Hora da Estrela (1985).
