Japanese writer and director, born on April 14, 1954, in Tome, Miyagi, Japan. In 2012, he became the fourth manga artist ever entered into the American Eisner Award Hall of Fame, and the Japanese government honored him with the Purple Medal of Honor in 2013. His debut as a character designer was in Harmagedon: Genma taisen (1983). His writing credits include Akira (1988), Memories (1995), and Steamboy (2004). |
