An Indian actor, born in Sialkot, Punjab Province, British India, on July 20, 1929, as Rajendra Kumar Tuli. He married Shukla and had 3 children. Kumar received 3 Filmfare Award nominations for Best Actor in 1966, 65, and 64. Among his most important works are Dil Ek Mandir (1963), Love Story (1981), The Train (1970), and Arzoo (1965). Kumar starred in Bollywood films. He began his career in 1950 and appeared in more than 80 films in a career that spanned 4 decades. He was one of the most successful Indian Bollywood actors in the 1960s. He also produced many films starring his son, actor Kumar Gaurav. Kumar's family left Pakistan and headed to Indian lands, where they settled in Bombay. Rajendra tried his luck with Indian cinema and made the movie Jogan (1950), but he preferred to work as an assistant director for 5 years. His big break was in the movie Mother India (1957). The sixties witnessed Kumar's rise to stardom. Six or seven films were screened for him at the same time and continued to be shown for more than 25 weeks. The government of India honored him and granted him the Padma Shri Award in 1969. In the late seventies, Kumar turned to performing character roles and produced films to help his son. Rajendra obtained a doctorate. He died in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, on July 29, 1999.
