An American actor born in Louisiana, Missouri. He began his career working for a mobile theater company and then began working on Broadway. In 1918 he began his career in silent films and had a successful career, which continued on when talking films emerged. His notable works include Barbed Wire (1927), The Little Shepherd of Kingdom Come (1928), Illicit (1931), and A Tale of Two Cities (1935). However, after he fell while filming Florida Special (1936), his career was threatened and he suffered from depression, especially after the death of his wife and the mother of his child a year later. All this led to his suicide by shooting himself on 2 November, 1939 in Beverly Hills, California.
