Salma El-Sharkawy |
A South African director, born in 1952 in Bantry Bay 1, Cape Town, South Africa. He earned degrees in philosophy and fine arts from the University of Cape Town, and he also has a master's degree in film from Columbia University. His short films have been shown at the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum, and the Walker Art Center, as well as Paris' Cinematheque and Beaubourg Museum. He is known for This World, Then the Fireworks (1997), King Blank (1983), and The Traveler (2010). He received several awards and nominations, such as the Feature Film Award at the New York International Independent Film & Video Festival for Best Psycho-Thriller for his film The Traveler (2010).
