    A German actor, born in Mainz, Germany, as Ferdinand Philip Mayer-Horckel. Mayne married Deirdre de Peyer (1950-1976), and they had a daughter, actress Belinda Mayne, and adopted another daughter before they divorced. Among his most important works are Pirates (1986), Conan the Destroyer (1984), and The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967). He was born to a Jewish family. His father was a judge in Mainz and his half-English mother was a teacher. He was sent to England to protect himself from the Nazis and to live with his aunt, a prominent photographer and sculptor. His parents were arrested for a short period in the German Nazi concentration camp Buchenwald, and because of his mother’s English origins, his parents were able to reach England before the outbreak of World War II. Second, he trained in acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. He also joined the Old Vic School, appeared on stage for the first time with a theater company, and became a much sought-after radio actor. His voice was used to broadcast anti-Nazi propaganda during wartime, and he presented many British films of the 1950s and 1970s. H was best known as a character actor, often presenting aristocratic and eccentric villains. He participated in Hollywood and participated in American films and series. Ferdy Mayne’s last work was the French production In the Shadow of the Sandcastle (1996). He died in London, England, United Kingdom, on January 30, 1998 from Parkinson's disease.
