A prolific American actor and film director, born in New York, USA. He began his activity as a theater actor until he moved to Hollywood in 1914. He worked in the silent era and transitioned to sound films until the early fifties. He married Mary Katherine Gilman (1906-1943), they had two children, with whom she remained until her death. Among his notable credits are The Landloper (1918), Bringing Up Baby (1938), and Man Power (1927). He died of a heart attack in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA, on September 11, 1961, at age 86.
