Martin John Gilbert was a British historian and writer. He was born on October 25, 1936, in London, England, United Kingdom. His credits include Genocide (1982), Liberation (1994), and The Mosaic of Life (2014). He was married to Esther Goldberg, Susan (Susie) Sacher, and Helen Constance Robinson. He was educated at Highgate School, London, then at Magdalen College, the University of Oxford, from which he graduated with a BA with first-class honors in Modern History. He also went to Merton College, the University of Oxford, from which he obtained a Doctorate of Literature. He was an Honorary Fellow at Merton College and the Claremont Institute for the Study of Statesmanship and Political Philosophy. Gilbert was the author of 70 books and numerous essays. He died on February 3, 2015, in London, England, United Kingdom.
