An American film and television actor, born in Sunflower, Mississippi, USA. Despite his remarkable comedic talent, he was given only minor roles, such as porter, servant, and driver. A drug-related charge ended his film career, after which he moved to work in television for a short period, before retiring and staying out of the limelight. Among his notable works are Nothing But the Truth (1941), The Ghost Breakers (1940), The Hidden Hand (1942), and High Sierra (1941). He died of cancer in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, on February 27, 1962, at age 45. |
