A Saudi politician and diplomat, he was the third Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1975 to 2015. By the time of his retirement, he had become the longest-serving Foreign Minister in the world. He was born in the city of Taif. He is one of King Faisal’s sons and his wife Iffat. He graduated from Princeton University in 1964, where he obtained a BA in Economics. He joined the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (currently the Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources) and worked as its economic advisor and a member of the Ministry’s Supreme Coordination Committee. He then moved to the General Petroleum and Mineral Corporation (Petromin) and became responsible for The Petroleum Relations Office, which supervises the coordination of the relationship between the Ministry and Petromin. Later, he was appointed Deputy Governor of Petromin for Planning Affairs, and in 1971 he was appointed Undersecretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources. In 1975, a royal decree was issued appointing him as Minister of Foreign Affairs after the position became vacant due to the death of his father, King Faisal bin Abdulaziz. He continued in his position until April 2015, after which he was appointed Minister of State, a member of the Council of Ministers, an advisor and special envoy to King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and a supervisor of foreign affairs. He died on July 9, 2015.
