An American screenwriter, producer, and director, who co-wrote with his friend Melvin Frank several works, including the film White Christmas (1954), and the musical Li'l Abner in 1959. He specialized in comedy and began writing with his friend Frank for the comedian Bob Hope. They were nominated for three Academy Awards for the films The Road to Utopia in 1945, On the Riviera in 1951, and The Facts of Life in 1960. |
