Officer, and astronaut from the United States of America, born on March 16, 1959, in Flint, Michigan, United States, and raised in Lake Fenton, Michigan. He received a bachelor's degree in engineering mechanics from the United States Air Force Academy, where he played soccer with the Falcons for coach Bill Parcells and was the captain of the team. He became an F-15 fighter pilot with the rare combination of graduating from the Fighter Weapons Instructor Course (FWIC, pronounced "Fwick") and then being selected as a test pilot (assigned to the F-16 Test Squadron at Edwards AFB). He received a master's degree in engineering management from Old Dominion University in 1993.
