She received her education...Read more at Heron's Ghyll School, a former independent boarding school in Sussex, and then spent six years in South Africa. At the age of 14, she returned to school, then enrolled at the Central School of Speech and Drama. She appeared in several productions on stage in London's West End. She made her film debut in The Second Mrs. Tanqueray (1952), then appeared in Father's Doing Fine (1952). After that, many works followed, such as the Oscar-nominated film The Cruel Sea (1953), Big Time Operators (1957), Born Free (1966), and The Camomile Lawn (1992).
