Muammar Muhammad Abdul Salam al-Gaddafi, known as Colonel Gaddafi, was a Libyan politician and revolutionary. He was born on June 7, 1942. Gaddafi ruled Libya for more than 42 years, first as Revolutionary Chairman of the Libyan Arab Republic from 1969 to 1977, then as the Brotherly Leader and Guide of the Revolution of the Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya from 1977 to 2011. Following his overthrow, he was killed on 20 October 2011. |
