An Irish actor, born in Dublin, Ireland, as Patrick Joseph Noel Purcell. He married once and had four children. Among Noel Purcell's most important works are Mutiny on the Bounty (1962), Moby Dick (1956), The Blue Lagoon (1949), and The Crimson Pirate (1952). Noel Purcell had a huge white beard and cheerful Irish features that made him look like a sailor, with the tip of his right index finger missing, so most of his films were filmed in the ocean. Noel Purcell was born to a father who worked as a broker. At the age of 11, he lived with his grandmother, a furniture dealer, and was educated at Synge Street School. He got his first job at the age of 12 when he was hired as a stagehand at the Gainey Theater in Dublin. He later worked as a carpenter in theater decorations, which led to more interest in acting, and he toured Ireland, working on theatrical work, and moved to cinema in 1934. His first distinguished role was in 1947 when he appeared with Stuart Grainger in the movie Captain Boycott (1947). He died in Dublin, Ireland, on March 3, 1985, from heart failure.
