An American theatre, radio, film, and television actor of Swedish origins, born in Brooklyn, New York, USA. He was planning to become a doctor, and he enrolled at Marietta College, and after undertaking several medical studies, he left it and turned to acting. He began acting in the early 1930s on Broadway, then worked on radio until the 1950s, and entered cinema in the early 1940s, playing roles in westerns in cinema and television. He was married twice and had 4 children. Among his notable credits are Judgment at Nuremberg (1961), The Sword in the Stone (1963) and The Birds (1963). He died of a heart attack on October 8, 1978 in Torrington, Connecticut, USA, at age 70.
