A British actor, born in Oldham, Lancashire, England, on December 29, 1928. He was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1971 for The Railway Children (1970). His notable work includes Frenzy (1972), The Adventures of Picasso (1978), and Carry On Columbus (1992). He became an actor at the age of 14. In 1947, he was drafted into the army in the Parachute Regiment, and after leaving the army, he continued his work in the theater, and appeared for the first time in on a West End theater in 1956. In the sixties, he released many songs, and achieved success as a comedian in the Carry On film franchise, as well as a voice actor in animated films, and in television commercials. He worked on the BBC radio, and participated in many TV series, the most prominent of which was Jackanory (1966-1991). He participated in the movie Invasion Earth (1966), and after 40 years he reprised the same role in the series Doctor Who (2007-2010). He also participated in the series Old Jack's Boat (2013-2015).
