A British actor, born in Cheshire, England, on February 4, 1915, and died in Warwickshire, England, on January 16, 1979. His notable work includes Carry on Follow That Camel (1967), Don't Lose Your Head (1967) and Carry on Up the Khyber (1968). He is best known for his work on...Read more the Carry on film franchise. He served as a lieutenant in the Royal Air Force during World War II, and in 1941 the Germans shot down his plane at the Dutch front, and he was placed in a prisoner of war camp, where he met Talbot Rothwell, who later became a writer on the Carry on franchise. After the war, he joined the Royal Navy, while continuing to act in cinema, theater and on television. He also worked on the radio. His first film was William Comes to Town (1948), and his last film was Carry on Emmannuelle (1978). His last appearance was in the television movie Afternoon Off (1979). Peter Butterworth died in 1979 of a heart attack at the age of 64 years.
