A British actress, born in London, England, on April 29, 1923, and died in London, England, on July 23, 1992. Her notable work includes The Vikings (1958), Peeping Tom (1960), and Prime Suspect (1991). She made her stage debut in 1940, and appeared in more than 25 films, the first of which was adapted from Tolstoy's Anna Karenina in 1948. She first appeared on West End in 1948, and between 1950 and 1954 appeared in many Shakespearean plays, such as King Lear, Othello, Caesar and Cleopatra, and the Twelfth Night, and played the role of Lady Macbeth with the Old Vic Company in 1961. In addition to her dramatic and musical theatrical work, she worked on television series. Her last film was Running Scared (1972), and her last television appearance was in Casualty (1992). Maxine Audley died of a heart attack in 1992 at the age of 69.
