A British screenwriter and producer, born in London, England, United Kingdom. She holds a degree in social sciences and a qualification as a registered psychiatric nurse from Brunel University. She initially worked in London's alternative comedy clubs in the mid-1980s, telling jokes and performing stand-up comedy. She began her professional career by appearing in comedy shows and programs as an actress and presenter, such as Saturday Live. She also participated in acting in many television, radio, and cinematic works, most notably The More You Ignore Me (2018), Introducing the Dwights (2007), and Getting On (2009-2012). She has several other experiences as a screenwriter and producer. On July 17, 2007, she was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Glamorgan for her work as a psychiatric nurse. In January 2014, she was awarded a second honorary doctorate from Canterbury Christ Church University for her work in raising awareness of mental health issues and challenging the stigma surrounding them.
