He was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best British Actor in 1961 for The Trials of Oscar Wilde (1960). His notable work includes Tunes of Glory (1960), and Repulsion...Read more (1965). He began his career on stage as a child, and he first appeared on TV in the series Kidnapped (1952). Among his most prominent television work is the series The Practice (1985-1986), where he presented 47 episodes. His film debut was in Titanic (1953). He retired in 1996 and died in 2020, at the age of 89.
