An American director and producer, born in Spanish Town, Jamaica. She moved to the United States at the age of eight, settling in Maryland with her mother. Tanya studied at Duke Ellington School of the Arts, Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, and Columbia University. Her first project was the short film The Killers (1995), which received an award at the Berlin International Film Festival. She is best known for Night Catches Us (2010), The Chi (2018), and Queen Sugar (2016).
