An American singer and songwriter, born in Edmonds, Washington, USA. She moved to Southern California when she was three. She began singing early and attended the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts. She later won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in the biographical film, The United States vs. Billie Holiday, becoming the second African-American woman to win the Best Actress award in the history of the award. She is best known for her 2015 album Cheers to the Fall. |
