An Indian actor, who was a leading man in Indian cinema in the thirties and forties. He participated in the first Indian talkie Alam Ara (1931). The movie Mughal-E-Azam (1960) is considered one of his most prominent and famous works. His children and grandchildren inherited the acting profession from him, as he was the father of the great actor Raj Kapoor, actor Shammi Kapoor, and Shashi Kapoor. He was also the grandfather of actor Rishi Kapoor and the great-grandfather of actresses Kareena Kapoor and Karisma Kapoor.
