An Indian actress, born in Hyderabad, India. She spent her childhood in Hyderabad. She went to school for a while and then studied at home. She once participated in a school drama and was keen to pursue an acting career. Her father's friend Jagdish Sethi offered her the lead role in a film he was shooting, Rangbhoomi (1946), which launched her career. Her career then continued with films such as Mughal-E-Azam (1960), Do Kaliyaan (1968), and Bansi Birju (1972).
